Home Security

Today the doorbell rang & this cute young lady was standing there with an "Elite" shirt on & a clipboard. I thought, "Hereeee we go"! I knew she was selling something.

First my dog went crazy & wouldn't stop barking even as we were both outside.
She suggested we go inside & I said, Um no I will just let her come outside.

So she went on about how she worked for a company called Elite &
that they were an authorized ADT dealer.
She said she could hook us up with $1500 in equipment for free in exchange for free advertising- meaning we'd have to keep a yard sign up & the monthly monitoring fee would be $45 a month.

As she was talking she started talking & asked me for some water.
Hmmm...against my better judgement, I allowed her to come in.
However- I knew hubby would be home in a few minutes.

We sat at my dining room table & we continued to chat.
Then I basically told her what she was saying sounded great, however I needed to verify her & the company she worked for. She showed me her business license & badge. Told me they went to our local police department and they scanned copies of their drivers license, etc.
I memorized the business license & I had planned to call & verify.
But a quick google search gave me enough info to know they're legit but they have all kinds of hidden fees.  They are based out of Utah so I think it's strange they send people door to door & ship their salesman across the US to sell.

Have you had these people come to your door?
I think it's time for a no soliciting yard sign!

Home Office Makeover!

This weekend we worked on my home office!
I should be set up to work from home some time this week (or next).

Friday I picked up the paint- which is Bleached Denim by Behr.
We moved all of the stuff out the room, patched a hole that was caused by the door knob,
& installed a door stopper.

Here are the before pics.
My previous home office was a horrible mix of everything.
Dark wood, light wood, medium wood, white, etc.

My desk area was super messy!

I loved the wall color & photos I had hanging up- but that's about it.

Black sheer panel had to go!
 more of my mess!

My hoarder-ness!lol

The patched hole- forgot to take a before pic.

Patched hole & door stopper

Repainted this too!

Saturday my mom & I ventured to Ikea in Atlanta.
I got up at 7am & we were on the road by 8:30.
It was our first time there- &we were there almost 4 hours!
When I got home, hubby got to work with a friend putting it together & I took the above chest of drawers outside & started painting it.

And here is the After:
New paint on the walls & desk in place!

I love this desk!

 Repainted Chest of Drawers!
3 cans of spray paint-
I didn't sand.
I didn't even take the drawers out or the stuff in the drawers out.
LOL! I was tired so this is how it turned out.
I plan to get new knobs of course.
And new face plates for all the outlets.

Moved my memo board to the back corner &
I want to get a vinyl wall decal for the other empty wall.

Moved arrangement to the opposite wall.
I plan to put in new pics in those empty frames.

Total cost so far- $385.
$85 for paint & materials (I had a $50 gift card so actually $35)
$290 @ Ikea for desk, shelving unit, misc office items.
$60 gas to & from Atlanta.

I still want to get:
new curtains
faceplates
knobs
light fixture
rug
wall decal
side table for printer

But other than that, what do yall think?
How'd we do?

YouTube Saturdays

Yes I am posting this actually on Monday with Saturdays date!
We were busy remodeling the office so my computer was unhooked all weekend.

Threatening to kill the professor & students?
OMG.
I don't know how they all stayed in there for this!

Can you say: TAKE YOUR MEDS!

Eleven Things!

I was tagged by the lovely Jamie from Life in a Southern Town
We're both GA peaches so she's one of my favorite bloggers.
We're gonna meet one day I'm sure...considering we don't live very far from each other!

So here we go!

The Rules:
1. Post these rules.
2. Post 11 random things about yourself.
3. Answer the 11 questions set for you in the original post.
4. Create 11 new questions and tag people to answer them.
5. Go to their blog and tell them you've tagged them.

1. What do you consider your biggest accomplishment in life?
Graduating from college! I am so glad my dad got to see me graduate with my BS degree. He died my first semester of grad school so he wasn't there for that graduation physically, but I know he was there in spirit. (Oh and making perfect attendance from K-12!)

Yeah, I know I did a crappy job scanning this! lol

2. If you had to be blind or deaf, which would you rather be and why?
Damn it Jamie! This is a hard one! If I'm deaf I wouldn't be able to hear music, hear laughter, her voices. If I'm deaf I can't see my loved ones, see the world, see to drive, see what I'm doing.  UGHH! I guess I'd take deaf because I can learn sign language. I have to be able to see what's going on though!

3. What is your dream job?
I would love to be an actress. I always wanted to move to Hollywood & become famous. I had an opportunity to move out there- but again it was right when my dad died so it wasn't feasible for me to leave then. I still have hope that one day I'll make it!

4. If you could marry any celebrity, who would it be and why?
Hmm, there's so many that I love! George Clooney was the first person to come to mind. Strange bc I've never been one of those people who are gaga over him. I guess it's because not only is he sexy, but he's been single so long and I'm confident that I could tame that wildness in him! lol!

5. At this very moment, what is your favorite song? Link to a video if you can. Also, what is your favorite song of all time?

Beyonce's Love on Top! It makes me so happy! I love her voice!

All time favorite song would be Dance With My Father Again by Luther Vandross.
Celine Dion sung this song too0 but I prefer Luther's version. Definitely a tear tearjerker for me!

6. If you had to spend one week without either your cell phone or your car, which would you rather live without? why?
Cell phone definitely. Sometimes I just need to unplug from all technology!

7. What is your favorite thing to cook? Can you share the recipe with the blog world?
Pffft, I am so not a cook! I am constantly trying various recipes I find on blogs. Casseroles are my favorite to make though.

8. Describe your most memorable vacation.
I went to Honduras the summer before my senior year. It was only for a week. It was a "save the rainforest" group with students from various schools across the US. We rode horses in the mountains, snorkeled, climbed the Mayan Ruins, and had THE BEST time ever! It was my first time out of the country without my parents. Honduras is a poor country & it made me realize how materialistic we Americans are.

I've climbed this!!

9. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Racism. Hands Down.
"God made one race, the Human Race.
People created Racism."
(People who drive slow in the passing lane & close standers are a close second!)

10. How many of the U.S. states have you been to?
18 states & counting...
AK, AL, CA, DC, GA, FL, IL, IN, KY, LA, MS, NC, NV, NY,  OH, PA, SC, & TN!

11. If you had to give 16-year-old you a piece of advice based on what you know now, what advice would you give?
He's not worth it, they all talk about you, invest your money, stay away from credit cards, avoid student loans, & pick a good major based on what you love!

I'm Alive!

I haven't forgotten yall, just haven't had much to blog about!

I'm painting the office this week & going to Ikea this weekend to pick up my new office decor!
So I will be posting some pics this week *promise*!

Have yall seen this bumper sticker?

The lady who came up this is from Hinesville, GA & she says she's not racist.
Although, the correct spelling would be RENEGE if that was the case.
I am just so shocked that anyone would put this on their car.
Even if you don't like Obama, this takes it to another level.

In other news...I did some googling to find out what clubs would be fun to go to in Vegas for New Years. And we've decided we won't be clubbing! The cover charges start at $125 per person!!
No thanks! We'll be partying in the street with the rest of the poor people! lol!

And I've added Shahs of Sunset to my Sunday night list.
 Have yall watched this?
I am so not a fan of GG!

Weekend Recap

Happy Monday Night!

How was everyone's weekend?
I am behind on reading everyone's blogs but I will get around to it this week.

We didn't do much other than hang out & go out to eat as usual.

We did look at some homes for sale in Vegas and I was very shocked at how
affordable the homes are. We found several 5 BR homes for less than $150k.
We even found an apartment complex for sale with 8 units for $109k.
It's probably in the hood though. LOL!
I did find my dream home for only $3.5 million!

 Love the pool!

Look at this kitchen!

And this ceiling in the dining room!
When I hit the lotto, this is so mine!

I also discovered the Draw Something app and I am addicted!
Does anyone else play this game?

Home Office Makeover

First I want to say thank you for all the congrats on my promo! I am SO excited to be working from home! They haven't set us up just yet so I have about a week to do a home office makeover.
If I am going to be in here 8 hours a day for work & then ??? hours a day for blogging, tweeting, facebooking, etc then I have got to get this room together asap!

I don't have a large budget since I only have a week so I might be going to Ikea this weekend to see what I can find. I need a desk for my work computer & one for my home computer.
I want a cohesive look in here which is why I plan to get a new one for my home computer.

First lets talk color.
My walls are currently a dark gray, which I LOVE.
But I want something calming, so I am thinking blue.
(Not necessarily the one below)

I like that desk too & I think Ikea has a similar one!

Something like this would be nice but that desk is so long.
However, I will have dual monitors for work along with my desktop so I may have to go this route.

I definitely need lots of storage.
So I am planning to add shelves like this.
Source: google.ca via Betty on Pinterest

And I like these box units since I'd be able to close them.

My vision is for it to be comfy, organized,  & stylish like this.

I doubt I will have all this together in a week.
But I am going to try my hardest!
Top 3 items on the list is painting, pricing new carpet for the space, & finding a desk.
I'll post before, during, & after pics once I get started!

Ass Control and Beethoven

I know you're thinking what the hell does that title mean.
Y'all...this couldn't wait for Saturday.
I was in tears laughing at this video!

And yes, as I am not afraid to admit that while I sat in my chair & watched this entire video,
I tried to move my cheeks like that.
And guess what happened?
Not a damn thing!
I don't know how she does it!

BTW, when I got to work Monday morning I was offered a promotion.
It's basically the same job but I'm moving from a specialist 3 to 4!
More money to save for hawaii & vegas!

Weekend Recap

I'm doing a phone dump weekend recap since
I fail miserably at taking my real camera with me!

Friday night hubby had the guys over.
While I sat in the office editing pics, they decided to go to
the grocery store to load up on snacks.
Never send men to the grocery store or you end up with this:

When men go grocery shopping!

I was working on pics for my friend's baby who turned 6 months old.
She's a cutie!
This is a pic of my monitor in case you're wondering.
Cutie Patootie!

Saturday my mom & I went shopping.
While in Wal-mart I came across this.
At first I thought, WTH!
Then I remembered all of my experiences with bland food & thought this was a good idea.
Although I would feel kind of weird whipping out my own seasoning at a restaurant!
Seasoning to go!

Saturday night hubby & I had dinner at Bonefish Grill.
We typically don't go to seafood places because I don't eat ANY seafood.
But it's new here, and hubby likes seafood, and I knew they'd have chicken or steak!
Bonefish Grill was fabulous!
Great atmosphere, great waitress, & great food.
I even tried their bang bang shrimp.
It was my first time trying shrimp- and I am not a fan.
(Hubby says it was the bomb!)
My steak was good though! lol

bang bang shrimp

We will be going back for their happy hour specials!
Bonefish Grill Happier Hour!

Sunday was our friend's 30th Birthday.
We went to a bar & grill called the Suite.
They have a live dj, food, & drinks.
I got there before hubby & his friends so I ordered some cheesesticks.
When they get there they tell me they saw a rat in the same place 3 days prior.
EWWW!
So I wasn't thrilled about eating my cheesesticks at all.
The place was kind of dark so I tried to take a decent pic of the table decor.
Kami's 30th!

And then just bc LWLH blogged about how much she hates putting laundry away I decided to post a pic of my horrible closet. I don't mind washing or drying clothes either, but putting them away is a pain in the ass! I leave them in the basket or dump them on my closet floor!
Don't judge! I know this is terrible!
LC's messy ass closet!
And in other great news...
I GET TO WORK FROM HOME!
YAY!
They told us Friday & I am SO happy!
I will be doing the same job but at least it will be from home.
They will be coming out within the next 2 weeks to get everything set up
so I have to repaint & redecorate since I will be in this room 8 hours a day!

Vote for Candis!

My friend's daughter is in a PROMathon & needs some votes!
And I am mean...she is in some serious need of some votes.

Candis is new to the school, was just told she'd be graduation in a few months, so they have not had much time to save for prom & graduation. Her mom, one of my best friends, was diagnosed with a rare cancer a few years ago so she hasn't been able to work. So money is tight!
Any help would be appreciated!

Please click HERE  to read more about the PROMathon
& to vote for Candis!!

Please tweet "@MashChicago I vote for #Candis as the 2012 PROMathon Queen!"

Thank you & Have a Great Weekend!

Naked 2: Urban Decay

I've had some time to try all of all the colors in the Naked 2 palette by Urban Decay.
I can honetly say I do love all the colors.
However, everytime I wear the color VERVE, by the end of my 8 hour work day,
it looks like my eye lids have been sweating!
I absolutely hate how it looks!

I don't wear an eye shawdow primer, and I never have.
But I guess I will have to.

A lot of people swear by the Primer Portion by Urban Decay so I might go that route.

Do you wear primer?
If so, which brand do you recommend?
